![]() For example, attacking from greyplane ignores armour and warding, which you don't need to bother with if the monster doesn't have armour/warding (e.g. Knowing what the mechanics really do, rather than relying on habits/rules of thumb that may have developed in Adventurer difficulty, is helpful. Make a habit of hitting the monster with some tickly little attack, and then hitting it from a 90+ degree angle in the same turn with a bigger attack. You don't need to do it on Adventurer, but higher difficulty punishes not flanking. Monsters that only do melee attacks can be ruined by Pin and may also have their plans wrecked by Hobble (reduces movement by 2 tiles).įLANK. Keep in mind whether any of your heroes could die if they get hit by any of those attacks. Hover on the monster's portrait (right side of the screen) to see how hard its attacks hit and what the attack range is. I note the best position for mystics is often "in the previous room, around the corner, out of sight." Is any hero standing in its attack range? If yes, the #1 best option is often to move away-even if you can't deliver the awesome-but-non-lethal attack you were really hoping to do. Hover on a monster and hold Shift to see where the monster can walk with one action point. These attacks need some setup and some precautions taken, but the reward is high.ĭead characters do not deal damage. Splintersalvo, Vigorflow with a bow, and (especially) dagger flanking are cheap, early-game ways to deal big damage if you've got them. So you cannot rely on them to score big hits and heaps of kills. Likewise, your hunter will probably not be a decent damage dealer like they will (hopefully, haha!) be later. So you must not throw the warrior into danger or have them absorb attacks like they may do in an Adventurer game. In Chapter 1 the difference between your warrior and other characters is, your warrior will probably survive one hit! (But prolly not two, haha!) That's a glass cannon without the 'cannon'. When you start, your warrior will not be a tank (unless you pulled Stalwart as your first ability or something). You have to keep the weakness of new characters in mind, along with 'very high incoming damage', and play very defensively (at least compared with what works on Adventurer). Not all abilities are created equal, especially when that's the only ability a character has! The game is about synergies, but you start with only one ability per character. At first I was definitely in a similar situation, where I was going, "What on earth, what am I doing wrong?! I thought I was good at this?!" I am good at this it just took a lot of practice :) My ten top tips are: (And Chapter 1 is pretty much always rougher than the others.) I play Tragic Hero without killing characters now, but it took a huge amount of hours played (and death and destruction and carefully reading and re-reading guides) to get there. Coming from Adventurer, Tragic Hero is really tough, especially at the beginning.
